Acer recently confirmed a recent data breach in their systems. The Indian subsidiary of the hardware company was recently the target of the DESORDEN hacker group. Privacy Affairs reported that the hackers have stolen over 60GB of confidential files. Those include customer information including names, addresses, and phone numbers. Login details of Acer resellers also appear in the stolen files.
Acer released a statement about the attack :
We have recently detected an isolated attack on our local after-sales service system in India. Upon detection, we immediately initiated our security protocols and conducted a full scan of our systems. We are notifying all potentially affected customers in India. The incident has been reported to local law enforcement and the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, and has no material impact to our operations and business continuity.
This is the second time Acer is targeted by such operation. The company was victim of a ransomware in march 2021. Acer was asked to pay a hefty $50,000,000 to get the data back.
