Facebook’s new name announced: Meta

Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg announced their new name in their latest Connect, Meta.

It’s the next evolution in a long line of social technologies, and it’s ushering in a new chapter for our company.

As reported before, this name directly coorelates with their efforts towards changing Facebook’s image from a social media company, to a “metaverse” one. This rebrand has been in the works for several years.

Along with this, the domain, meta.com now redirects to an “about us” page, describing their intentions and goals for the future.

The metaverse is the next evolution of social connection. Our company’s vision is to help bring the metaverse to life, so we are changing our name to reflect our commitment to this future.

Along with that, new projects like Horizon Workrooms and with the help of Oculus, the direction they are headed for is clear: an expanded focus on Virtual Reality-based interaction.

Meta states that their management will remain the same and their lineup of apps like Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram, will still exist and function exactly like they did before.
